At Fadeyi BMX Summer challenge, body advocates more talent hunt programmes

As part of its efforts to discover and groom more cycling talents for the country, an organisation, FTCYCLECARE at the weekend staged a competition for children in the Fadeyi area of Lagos.
 
The championship, tagged BMX Summer Challenge, was entertaining and exciting as 20 children took part in the competition, which the organisers said would help spread the sport across the state.

According to the President/Technical Head of FTCYCLECARE, Femi Thomas, who is also a member of the Nigeria Cycling Federation (NCF), the championship was also put together to encourage people the society perceived as area boys in Fadeyi to get to know that they can also earn a living in cycling.

Thomas posited that Nigeria in the future could churn out quality cyclists that would compete favourably with the best in the world if more advocacies were put in place to promote bicycle sport.

He called on the federal and state governments, as well as the private sector to support in developing cycling, saying that it would go a long way to encourage more youths to take the sport.

“The BMX Summer Challenge, apart from discovering talents, was also organised to put Fadeyi area in Lagos in positive light. Some People have tagged Fadeyi as an area filled with bad boys.
